United Campus Workers supports candidates who stand for the working class and the common good by opposing privatization, supporting public education, and fighting for living wages.

Hey UCW members! Whatcha doing this summer? We've got lots of opportunities coming up to get involved and learn organizing, campaign, and political skills to build our movement.

Wow - what a whirlwind this legislative session has been.

Building on our work at the capitol last year, UCW has introduced our Fair Raise Act (HB 1105 / SB 1333 ) to give an across the board pay raise of at least $1000 to every state employee and our Moving TN Adjuncts Forward Act (HB 707 / SB 775) raise adjunct pay to a minimum of $1000 per credit hour. Our bills seek to address the unfairness of percentage raises, which disproportionately benefit those at the top and leave out adjunct faculty, most of whom haven't received a raise in 20 years.

Memphis, TN --  On January 10,  the University of Memphis released an email to all employees concerning a joint resolution between the Staff and Faculty Senates calling for the minimum pay to be raised to $15/hr. United Campus Workers, Tennessee's only higher education union, applauds the efforts by University of Memphis to publicly address the crisis of low pay for its employees and calls for swift implementation of this needed change.

Join fellow higher education employees from across Tennessee at our yearly gathering to:
* Build connections
* Discuss strategies & successes
* Strengthen our campaigns

It features members' stories from our beginnings to now!

  • Grad students would owe a new tax on their tuition waivers.
  • Campus employees would owe a new tax on their tuition benefits.
  • Our kids and spouses would pay taxes on the tuition discount we get.
  • Student loan interest would no longer be deductible.
  • University and college endowments would also be taxed.
